I never had a problem with public speaking. When called upon to do this, I
- Make sure I know the subject I'm speaking about completely
- Make an outline of what I want to cover, including how much detail and examples I want to use.
- Then, figure out how to make it interesting - if what you are saying is dry and boring, you've lost your audience. Some people use jokes, I don't.
- Make sure I can cover my outline in the allotted amount of time, and don't ramble.
By the time I'm done, I have my outline committed to memory and generally don't use notes, or have them nearby just in case. If its a more technical matter, then I'll prepare a power-point presentation.
I took a speech class in High School, and had fun with it. It just came natural to me.
Did you ever speak to a big group after HS?
